Joseph A. Melbourne, Jr. Annual Scholarship Program

The Joseph A. Melbourne Jr. Annual Scholarship Program, named after Addition Financial's former President and CEO, will award six undergraduate scholarships - worth a total of $10,000 each - to six lucky graduating high school seniors and two master’s level scholarships - worth $2,500 each - to student members with accounts in good standing.


To be eligible, applicants must meet all of the criteria.

  • Applicant must be a member

    Applicant must be a current account holder, joint account holder or named on a custodial account in good standing with Addition Financial at the time of application submittal and scholarship award payout.

  • Undergraduate Applicants

    Undergraduate applicants must be graduating high school in the spring or summer of the year they are applying and be accepted into or enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program at a college, trade school or university that is located in the state of Florida. (Minimum 12-credit hour semester or full-time equivalent.)

  • Master's Applicants

    Master’s level applicants must be accepted into or enrolled into a master’s level program at the University of Central Florida.

  • GPA Requirements

    Applicant must have a current cumulative grade point average (GPA) of a 3.0 or higher.

The award

Addition Financial will be offering eight scholarships in total. Two master's level scholarships and six undergraduate scholarships. 

  • Six undergraduate scholarships.

    Each undergraduate scholarship winner will be awarded $10,000 over four years. ($2,500 per year.)

  • Two master's scholarships

    Each master's scholarship winner will be awarded $2,500 each. (One time payout.)

Entry requirements.

When submitting the online application, all applicants must include the following:


Academic transcript(s):

  • High school applicants - must supply transcript copy for all classes taken in grades 9-12. Must show current GPA.
  • Master's applicants - must supply transcript copy of most recent classes taken. Must show current GPA.

Essay #1 – 50 words or less – outlining and/or demonstrating the importance of community service to the applicant.


Essay #2 – 50 words or less - The credit union philosophy is "People Helping People", what does this mean to you?


Letter of recommendation – letter should include applicant's demonstrated community service efforts.

Timeline, judging and renewal

Applications will be reviewed and judged by a scholarship committee within Addition Financial. Personal information will be redacted prior to review by the scholarship committee. Missing information within application will result in disqualification. The credit union is under no obligation to contact applicants regarding missing information. Winners will be selected and notified by March 29, 2019. Scholarship check will be made payable jointly to the recipient and their designated school and will be mailed directly to the school. Addition Financial employees, officials, immediate families of employees and immediate families of officials are not eligible. All decisions made by Addition Financial will be final. One application per person allowed. 

For undergraduate scholarship renewals, Addition Financial will need the following information to be emailed to our marketing department at marketing@additionfi.com:

  • Proof of completion and grades from the last semester the scholarship was applied.
  • Proof of full-time enrollment for the upcoming fall semester.
